They say that history is the propaganda of the winner. And rightly so, when the data we get now is used for historical analysis. The story as it is written today is either a single story or a winner of a contest between multiple stories. The dictators are aware of this, and so every ruler used to be in the service of his historian to tell his own story. It is still in practice today.
