The spirit of an artist
The spirit of an artist
"This is a concern for everyone, especially in today's chaotic world where your identity is easily lost. The answer to this question is what I suggested during my visit to the Identities exhibition in Denk Spaces. At the entrance to the gallery was an exhibition by the exhibiting artist Erasmus Onyishi. What at first glance was a simple jumble of wires and tangled cables was looked at more closely than a colony of ants climbing against the wall? This blatantly mixed medium may be what opened our door to art forms other than realism, a concept we were more or less closed too.
Upon entering the building, the eyes were surprised. Each work was a colorful and lively expression of the same theme, identity. Exhibiting artists have identified themselves through their work through colors, lines, structures, and shapes. Every work has seduced us all in different ways. One of Henry Eghosa's expressive works depicting a woman in a traditional dress seemed to whisper that our culture is our pride. Stephen Osuchukwu, who had earned a herd of elephants, drew attention to the matriarch elephant, whose position as a leader is almost synonymous with identity. This cow is the oldest and largest herd and is responsible for the management of elephant herds. Her survival rests on his broad shoulders. After careful consideration, we realize that we can be a kind of matriarch if we take leadership positions.
Obinna Makata, in her book Beauty Deeper than Cosmetics II, makes us aware of the need to preserve our unique identities in a world in which society prescribes what to wear, how to look at and which eventually becomes another work, Of Race and Identity, tells us Africans that we do not really conform to the label [Black], but that our identities are rainbows of colors, because each of us has something special. His artistic engagement in Ankara emphasizes individuality. Just as each Ankara motif derives its beauty from its unique motif, so does our different identity.
Promise O'nali, whose innovative style identifies him in the most remote corners of the world, gives us a different vision of the term identity. Who are we? It is something that requires careful thought. His works invite the viewer to observe in a simple and cool way the complexity of the journey of a man in life and the constant struggle for his true identity.
At the end of this truly inspiring and sensational exhibition, I have almost returned to another level. I had a general lesson. In Mr.'s words
And indeed, I was really inspired to open those doors and miserably grab the spell.
